In his 'own' image is displayed within the installation with In His 'Own' Image 2 (2001), a new work by the artist. This new work, a 40' long mixed-media photo-abstraction, incorporates text and image. For this project the artist posits two questions: "How do we see ourselves?" and "How do we see each other?" The dictionary definitions of "self" and "image," projected on the floor, prompt questions of identity. The text accompanying the original work, expressing the artist's reaction to the Rodney King verdict, is also projected onto the floor near the definitions. Outside the room is a table with a mirrored top that can be used by visitors to trace their own self-portraits onto transparency sheets. The visitors are invited to display their drawings on the exterior of the room, which also displays smaller photo-abstractions by the artist.
